Since Mount Albert Grammar’s foundation in 1922, the school has established a strong academic tradition. Our 2016 NCEA results were our best ever, and the number of Scholarships attained by our elite academic students placed us among the top six schools in New Zealand.

We are widely considered to also be among the top sporting schools in the country, with a history of winning numerous Auckland and New Zealand Championship titles. We offer a wide range of sports at all levels, from social to premier grades, for both boys and girls. All students are encouraged to take part in at least one sport, not only for the physical benefits but for the social and character-building aspects that sport provides for young people. At MAGS, sport is considered intrinsic in our overall culture of developing well-rounded young men and women who aspire to excellence in everything they do, and seek to serve others in the community. We believe our sporting culture feeds directly into our academic success.

Mount Albert Grammar School is arguably the top sporting school in New Zealand with a long tradition of Auckland and national championship success across a wide range of codes, and students selected to represent the region and the country.More important than medals, however, is the value we place on sport to help develop character and a lifelong interest in health and fitness among our students. All students are encouraged to participate in at least one sport each year, and consequently we offer more than 30 sports which can be played from social to premier level.

The Arts

Mount Albert Grammar School considers the Arts one of our Four Pillars in the composition of a well-rounded education for all our students. Students involved in Dance, Drama, Music, Cultural Groups and Visual Art improve their critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Self-expression through these outlets nurtures students’ creativity, innovation, self-discipline and collaborative skills, all of which are becoming more important in our changing world.
