Waihi College

Providing Pathways for all Students to Achieve Their Highest Potential

Located in the Bay of Plenty on New Zealand’s North Island, Waihi College is built on the site of the old Waihi golf course and enjoys huge grounds. The Waihi region is rich in gold mining history and spectacular natural scenery. We have our own kiwifruit orchard, dairy farm unit, expansive sports grounds, heated outdoor swimming pool and outstanding academic and arts courses and facilities. We are the only place in the world to have on open pit gold mine within walking distance of the town centre. We have Waihi Beach and Tauranga Harbour at our door step and Tongariro National Park four hours drive away. Our outdoor education and sports programmes are among the best in New Zealand and all this makes Waihi College an exceptional place and an excellent option for international students.

English is an important part of why many international students come to New Zealand. Waihi College offers various levels of English language instruction ranging from those learning English for the first time through to main stream courses for experienced users of English. In some cases, Waihi College can also provide one on one support for students who require extra assistance to gain English language skills. Students who are focussed on getting a recognised assessment have the opportunity to sit IELTS examinations while they are here.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education at Waihi College offers international students an exciting and practical introduction to a range of learning opportunities in the outdoors.

They will learn alongside Kiwi students and participate in all aspects of the course including overnight trips, day excursions and assessment activities. Courses are made up of units that ensure participants not only get to experience the outdoors but also learn important safety and risk management strategies that will serve them well, long after they have returned to their home countries.
